Production Team

In making just a simple movie, I learn that alot of persons are needed to make it possible. So many person are needed such as the director, gaffer, best boy, editor, digital photographer, ligthing technician and a whole lot of other persons. They are very important indeed as they all need each other. I now understand the production class and am going to use the knowledge to apply it to the storyboard.

Looking At A Crew List

This class was mainly about crew list, which is really a list of the crew needed on a set during a video shoot. We also learnt how each of them were important to produce a video. The activity made it more clear because we had to take a simple ad and see who was needed and why they were needed and how best money could be saved by the hiring of less people.

We went through the production team usually needed for a video shoot and realized the importance of them and how much crew was actually needed in order for a production to done .

We now have to add animatics and dialogue to our story board to make it into a complete story by friday. That will be a very interesting and maybe a little difficult

Budgeting in Video Production

A general production budget is broken down into 3 main categories: Above the line expenses, Below the line expenses and Contingency.
Above the line expenses include payments for: Director, producer, actors, story / script, etc.
Below the line expenses include payments for: Legal expenses, traveling / living expenses, extras, crew, post production expenses, etc.
The contingency is an extra allowance added to the production budget to cover unexpected expenses. The contingency normally is at least 10 percent of the above-the-line and below-the-line expenses to satisfy the completion guarantor.

Of course budgets will vary depending on the production and usually each portfolio on the production will have a sub-budget in addition to the overall budget.

3rd Class

So for our 3rd class we went in depth of the methodologies for pre-production. we also got a task to create a 5min ad on teenagers using condoms using those methodologies. i thought at 1st it would hav been an easy task and a walk over esp seeing that i would be working with some1 else but i quickly found out that it wasnt- it took a lot of thought and work. my partner was fun to work with and it was nice to get her ideas on the subject. and amazingly in the 1 1/2hrs we accomplished most of the work with only half of the storyboard to do. It was all good.

Storyboarding

I thought storyboarding was going to be a very easy task but it proved to be much more tedious than I thought. you really have to put alot of thought and detail into the making of a storyboard and writing of a script/screenplay. I found this exercise to be very helpful because it helped me to use my creative skills.

well today i became very occupied with storyboarding, screenplay, synopsis and shot list as my partner and i work on present a topic on teenage sex and the usage of condoms utilizing all the above methodologies. it was pretty exciting but am still working on my shot list. i seem to be rearranging the shots on the story board every 1/2 hour. am not confused though, i think am jus been a good prducer and am trying to get the best angles possible so our images can convey the intended plot. if i find myself in difficulty, i will surely ask for help right here....

Class 3

Today we did went over the terms used in a video production focusing mostly on Storyboard. The topic being: Create a video piece that promotes the use of condoms among sexually active teens lasting for 5 mins. It was interesting working with someone else and getting their idea and combining to create something that would work. We drew the actually scenes on paper, wrote the script and shotlist.

Next week we should have the finish productions and the other week with the animatics(sounds) which should be cool.

CLASS 3

Today we went into the methodologies of the pre-production process which includes the creation of a screen play, script, shot list, story board and an animatic. We were given an in class assignment where we had to come up with a video piece that promotes the use of condoms amongst sexually active teens. As having worked as a director and producer for a popular TV network, I have always had to my disposal, script writers. This is the only challenge with this assignment... give me all the technical stuff and I'll work magic.

A script is a written version of a play or other dramatic composition; used in preparing for a performance

screenplay or script is a written work that is made especially for a film or television program. Screenplays can be original works or adaptations from existing pieces of writing. A play for television is known as a teleplay.

Shotlist

A shot is an uninterrupted sequence of frames taken by a video camera. In other words, this is the continuous film taken from when the camera has been turned on to when it has been turned off. A list of shots helps in the planning and filming of your movie. An example of a shot list can be seen below. Stikkup shot list - Shots 1 to 6 Shot 1: Long Shot establishing the view of a bank that is not too well known. Shot 2: Medium Shot of Dick and Tom walk across the view of the camera. You get a view of their head and the side of their body. This shot is to only to show they have arrived at the bank. Shot 3: Big Close Up Shot of Dick and Tom. They look at each other and then they separate. Shot 4: Medium Long Shot of Dick walking to the writing desk. Shot 5: Medium Shot of Dick at the writing desk. Storyboards are a series of frames with drawings and words from a script. Visually, they resemble a comic book. The art in a storyboard is usually rough pencils, but it can be full-color art, 3-D figures (like HyperReal®), photography, or a combination of two or more of these.After the script is written for a given commercial, film, or TV show, storyboards are the next step.Storyboards are most often used in film and television as the first step to illustrate a visually complex scene and attempt to conceptualize its workings.After the storyboard, the next step is producing an animatic. The artwork from the storyboard is rarely used to produce the final animatic, as it is usually either too rough or not prepared for easy animation.

Animatic: it deals with animation (cartoons) and storyboard works both works together as the story board tells the sequence the story is supposed to follow. The shot list is a narrowed list of the images etc that the artist wants to work with. It is is important as its a way of planning out the order of images or the flow of a production.

Class 2

the class did its first assignment. some persons find it easy and others a challenge because the pictures did not come out the way they wanted to tell their story.

yes,a new class that is named intro to video production. I think its going to be interesting and i hope this will be one area where originality of work will be produced.

They may consult you, or they may not. Other writers may be brought in or you may be asked to re-write the entire thing. That's life, in the world of screenwriting. But because so many people are involved in the making of a film, a script must conform to standards that all involved parties understand and thus has a specific format or layout, margins, notation, and other conventions. This document is intended to overview the typical elements used screenplay writing.

A shotlist is simply all list of the shots you need to shoot to create your video. It lets you think of the full process, all the video footage you need to capture to make your finished video.The shotlist also helps you consider shooting raw footage in a way that makes sense. Not necessarily in the order of the story.For example: if your video starts at the beach, moves to a restaurant, and ends in a school. Shoot all the beach scenes scenes one day, and the restaurant and school scenes on other days.

A screenplay is writing intended to be turned into film. If a movie were a building, a screenplay would be the blueprint.

2nd Class and Terms

Ok so the 2nd class was interesting. Especially viewing what others did for their story assignment. I thought it was a pretty easy assignment until I realised that mine didnt really have much of a conflict or climax or resolve. I then started to view my work in a different light. It got even worse when i had to write out my story. there wasnt much to the story in the 1st place much less to write about it and i found that highly difficult.

Animatics: A rough television commercial produced by photographing storyboard sketches on a film strip or video with the audio portion synchronised on tape. Used primarily for testing purposes.

Storyboard: Storyboards are graphic organizers such as a series of illustrations or images displayed in sequence for the purpose of pre-visualizing a motion picture, animation, motion graphic or interactive media sequence, including website interactivity.

Shot List: A list of required photographs provided to the photographer prior to the wedding. Includes the subjects of each photograph and any additional pertinent information.

Script: a written version of a play or other dramatic composition; used in preparing for a performance.

Story Board: a script for a film including dialogue and descriptions of characters and sets.

Terms used in Video Production

Animatics: is an series of still images and audio used to present a movie, tv commercial so that persons can visualize what the finish product will look like.

Storyboarding: is the process of creating sketches and series of illustrations to outline the changes in scenes and progression of a movie to be filmed.

Shotlist: is when a sequence of frame that is being done with a video camera: from the start to the finish the video camera is not turned off.

Script: is a written document that shows the progression of a film or television work.

Screenplay: My understanding of the screenplay is the same as a script but for the screen play it actually shows you editing and revisions through the process and screen plays are mostly video for major films. I found a link for the screenplay for Tropic Thunder. It’s great.

Picture Story

The second lesson was not so bad! The picture story assignment was rather interesting, mainly because it was easy to complete. I made my own story, but when it came to the point of putting the picture story into words well.... now that is an issue i need to take up with the Man himself because i am no good at putting the pictures into words.I guess my writing will improve overtime (i hope)! I am looking forward to my new assignment! WELCOME MORPHING

CLASS 2 Lecture Summary

So we found out that every story we tell. has a start a middle and a finish.

• Exposition (Once upon a time there was a pretty girl named Cinderella who lived with her stepmother and stepsisters. They get invited to a ball at the palace...)
• Conflict (...Wicked Stepmother and Step Sister prevent Cinderella from going to the ball, fairy godmother helps her out...)
• Climax (...Midnight comes and the spell wears off...)
• Resolve (...The prince finds Cinderella and puts on the glass slipper... )
• Return to the new situation (...and they lived happily ever after.)

That is the anatomy of a plot. The plot is how the storyteller manipulates the emotion. The best way to have your audience connect with your story is through the characters in the story. If you communicate how your characters in your story feels and how they change, within an environment that you establish and describe, you will connect with an audience.

The Rise of Action to a Climax and the Fall of Action to the new status quo, is called a story arc.

A short story usually only has one arc. A novel has a few but is encompassed by bigger story arc and serial stories may have one arc per installment or multiple arcs under a bigger story arc. Newspaper stories start with the climax first and then the details afterward, so that when the reader stops reading, he already got the main point of the story.

Whether we use pictures, words, audio or video, we can provoke emotions through any medium and in the process get our message across.

Grading of Assignment 1
I graded the assignment as submitted on Friday by most of you, but because of the issue of communication between yourselves I decided it would not be fair to some of you to leave the grades as is, so I will grade the submissions for our assignment in Class as Assignment 1B and average 1A and 1B for your final grade just to be fair to those that did do the first assignment properly. This will not happen again, so please read my blog posts. I will email your grades for this assignement by Friday.

My 1st and 2nd class in one

Well not understanding the homework given at the 1st class, i had no choice but to randomly select some pictures which didnt really worked that well. In today's class i understood what was suppose to be done and got a clear understanding of building i plot and making it interesting, even if its only pictures. Like any other DMP student, i love this field, and am looking to enjoy this class, while scoring good grades. Oh and i wrote a story as well today. i havent written one in years, but i guess this class will help me develop that skill.

My First Class

My first class as a second year student was video production. Yea, I have been formally introduced to videography. I can't wait to start rolling those cameras. Looking forward to an interesting experience.

In Today's class I got the opportunity to understand the linear nature of formulating a story. In order for the message to be convened clearly a story must have a beginning a middle and a an end. Class was quite interesting today everyone got an opportunity to express themselves in writing.

CLASS 2

So this class was cool as well... we looked through some of the assignments from the week before and did an in class assignment to script the picture movie. Another walk in the park for me because any good producer knows that before executing the production of any feature, it must be scripted.

First Class

The first class was very interesting. We watched 4 video: 2 music videos and 2 short stories and to comment on the visual aspects of them.

I think i got it incorrect but it was a learning experience..

The assignment is to create a storyboard with 12 pics.

Well I have made my first slide and so far I am liking what I doing. As u may have noticed I took the pictured and animated them so as to do something different which I hope that you guys liked. However lets get out there and do our best

2nd class

In today's class we reviewed the homework. Some of us had the general idea, some didn't. We went through the story-telling process. This gave me a better idea of what we were supposed to do and would make the next assignment easier.

We also had to write a story about the 12 frames, explaining what exactly occurred.

first class

In last week's class we watched and analyzed a few videos: music videos and short films. We got a brief insight into what the class was going to be about and we also received our first assignment. the assignment was to tell a story in 12 frames. The class was interesting and hopefully it remains that way in upcoming weeks :)

CLASS 1 Lecture Summary

Just a summary of what we covered. We told stories about ourselves and looked at stories told in short film and music videos. In every good story, we will have:

• exposition or status quo (situation at the start of the story, introduction of the characters, setting)
• rising action or conflict (antagonist and protagonists are identified)
• a climax (the turning point, point of highest emotional interest)
• falling action or return to status quo(winding down)
• resolution.

CLASS 1

Intro to Video Production seems to be an interesting course. Its all stuff that I have done already but i am expecting to do alot of practical work to practice my skills.
